When Mkwa was born, I caught him in my bare hands. When I brought him to my face for a closer look, that's when we bonded and he stole my heart forever. Mkwa was special, he was my life
On September 14, 1997, Mkwa raised $500.00 for "Paws for a Cause Walk-a-thon" for the prevention of cruelty to animals for the Sudbury, Ontario SPCA. Mkwa loved life, and he loved the forest, he had lots of room to play, and his domain was extensive.
When the vet phoned to tell me that my Mkwa died on the operating table, I felt as if he just ripped a piece of my heart out. The first thing I thought was no, how can that be, he must be mistaken.
Mkwa especially loved laying on this little hill in front of the house. I use to watch him. I would look out the window and he would always be there on his little hill. When I look outside now and he's not there the tears start falling.
Mkwa loved his yum yum ball, especially when it had peanut butter in it. (Actually, it was a
kong), but we called it his yum yum ball. I use to say Mkwa? Where's your yum yum ball? He use to just run and get it, and when he saw the peanut butter, he would be so happy.
My Mkwa, burying you was the hardest thing I ever had to do in my life, but as I moved the earth aside with my hands and felt the coolness of mother earth, I knew this is where you wanted to be. Mkwa is buried in the forest, on a hill overlooking the bay.
Mkwa, you are a free spirit now, free to fly with the eagles, and chase all the deer you want. We love you Mkwa. Thank you for being such a good guard dog, and thank you for your unconditional love.
